Definition of Time by Wooteik Lim
From what I can tell this little beauty of a time piece actually came out almost a year ago. So if you have already seen this I apologize, but it was a first for me. This design really enraptured me. When I first saw it, I thought it was some funky wall hook or something with a sweet shadow on the wall as I was trying to figure out its application (I tend not to read and just look at pictures). When I realized it was a clock, it really sat well with me.
This is what I like about it. First, it creates a shadow that never sits longer that a minute and will change depending on light, time of day, etc. Second, at first glance you don’t know it’s a clock unless you are looking at it straight on. It forces you to look at it creatively. I know it’s not easy to tell the time with, but it’s a talking point. Thirdly, time is available everywhere, and a wall clock isn’t really a necessity these days. So, Lim made time into a sculptural, intrinsic art piece.
